Punk to Emo – The 90's
The punk scene at this time drifted towards emo music. Christine Front Drive has always been considered one of the most important early emo bands from the US, but they had plenty of hometown company that unfortunately never got their due. Bands like Small Dog Frenzy were a decade ahead of their time musically and in band name as far as emo is concerned. Out of this emo scene emerged a band called Angel Hair that mixed elements of emo with very aggressive hardcore. They were signed to Gravity Records out of San Diego, who along with their labelmates Heroin, Antioch Arrow, and Clikitat Ikatowi, are credited with starting a new style of hardcore that went back to more screaming and thrashing around than the emo direction. The singer from Angel Hair went on to front the VSS, Year Future, and found GSL, considered one of the better and more important independent record labels today.
